Rosario Dawson Reveals She Was Sexually Abused When She Was a Child

Rosario Dawson is the latest celebrity to speak out on behalf of the #MeToo movement, by revealing that she was sexually abused as a child. In an interview on the Morado Lens podcast, Dawson discussed the implications of the abuse she encountered growing up, and what she thinks of the Time’s Up initiative.

In the latest episode of Morado Lens, the prolific actor revealed: “I was raped and molested as a child, so for me, the world was like that since I was a child.”

Of the recent slew of sexual assault allegations in Hollywood, Dawson said, “When I saw it in the workplace, it wasn’t foreign to me. It was like, well, that even happens within family. It happens with people that are supposed to take care of you when you’re a child.”

Dawson also revealed that she was ready for the #MeToo movement, and the Time’s Up initiative, of which she’s a staunch proponent. Of abuse and assault in any industry or situation she said, “We don’t have to keep passing this on. This is archaic and terrible and destructive. Let’s look at it.”

The Luke Cage and The Defenders actor also said of #MeToo and Time’s Up, “It’s beautiful. I’m so ready for this moment.”

Along with 300 other actors, producers, directors, and members of the film industry, Dawson helped to start the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, which exists to provide financial aid and legal support to people affected by sexual assault, abuse, and inequality, in any industry.
